Build Your Own Solar Hot Water Panel Workshop
18/19 September 2010

Just an outline of the course at present - will fill in over the next week or two.

There will only be six places for this course to ensure everyone gets all the help and instruction they need from the two instructors. No previous experience is necessary as these units are very simple to construct.
Guidance on how to integrate your own panel into an existing hot water system will be given.

All tools and materials are provided, but if you wish to take away a completed panel for your own use, we ask
for a contribution of between £20 and £40 (depending on size) towards the cost of materials.

Essential low-impact skills you will have a chance to try include:

Basic Woodworking - framing a simple box.
Basic Gas Soldering and Glass Cutting.
Rudiments of plumbing.
There will be opportunities to learn about other aspects of living off-grid and experience low-impact luxury first hand. All the facilities at the Gatehouse are freely available during your stay. Lively discussions after work are a feature of these workshops! If you think you might like to live in a community without bills or a lifelong mortgage - check it out.

Timetable and Workshop details.

Workshops run from 10am till 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday, with a wee break for lunch, but are pretty informal, and entertainment round the fire in the evenings often includes discussion and further info.

You can arrive after 4pm on the Friday (17 Sep) to set up camp if you wish. There is hot water, shower, compost toilet, cooking and drying facilities. Self service refreshments 24/7 and plenty of space for camping. No dogs please as there are sheep roaming freely all around.

Main meals provided all three evenings - please let us know if you wish a meal on the Friday so we can cater accordingly. Help with cooking and dishwashing is expected!

Workshop takes place at the Gatehouse near Dalmellington in East Ayrshire.
Full travel details will be sent out to you when you book.
